Education

EDUCATION

Mission

One of the Guild’s goals is to become more involved in the wider community in various ways that we are still figuring out; your ideas are very welcome.

This will naturally involve opening some of our educational classes to individuals and other groups that have overlapping interests. As well we will look for other places and events that are interesting and could provide an outlet for members to use/add to their skills.

If an education opportunity pops up, we will advertise special classes on our Facebook page and in our members newsletter – keep an eye out for our monthly updates.

Classes

We hold classes to enable members to extend their skills or try out something fun or new. We offer a range of classes so there is something for any skill level from beginner to master. Classes are usually on weekends and run from half-day to 2-day sessions throughout the year.

Drop a note to shauna.mcgovern@gmail.com if you would like to make a suggestion for a class or be a tutor.

Tutors
Our tutors are friendly and highly skilled, and they come from within the Guild, around NZ, or abroad. We cooperate with other NZ guilds to host internationally recognized tutors whenever we have the opportunity. Last year, when we were able to travel, tutor Rachel Daisy came from Australia and gave several terrific workshops including her Pockets Full of Posies wall-hanging. Locally, Chris Behersing and Barrie Ashton are well-respected AQG members who recently provided tutorials on Free-Motion and Rulers quilting techniques.

Classes

The guild aims to run half a dozen workshops in a year, usually from March through October. November will see a return of Midnight Madness, a fun evening class of simple and satisfying handwork suitable for small Christmas gifts or decorations. We don’t schedule any classes around Christmas or the Summer break.

Shauna McGovern-Vale is the Education coordinator on the AQG committee so email her if you have any comments or questions shauna.mcgovern@gmail.com
