Quilts will be displayed at the July meeting.
Short on ideas?
Bearing in mind that Pounamu / Greenstone / Nephrite /Jade is a tough durable rock, here are some suggestions:
- Rocks on a sandy beach or boulders in a river.
- Consider the beauty, translucency and colour – display the colour range of greenstone, from light aqua through the green spectrum to almost black.
- Keen edges, as in tools and weapons – show sharp angles.
- Pounamu is used for decorative objects – vases, bowls, cutlery handles, jewellery (often combined with gold in Victorian examples).
- An abstract approach could suggest sharpness and angularity; or be curvilinear as in many Maori designs.
- A whole panel in the range of greens.
Please follow these guidelines:
- You may interpret the theme in any way you please.
- Your quilt should fit within the size 20” × 30”
- It may have a horizontal or vertical orientation according to your interpretation, and need not be rectangular.
- The quilt must have three layers and have some quilting.
- A label on the back with title, maker’s name, phone no. and guild no.
- Hand in at the June meeting.
- Judging and prize giving at the July meeting.
Hope this helps your inspiration.
